SGC Associate Director - Dr. Johan Weigelt

Following an MSc in Engineering Physics from Uppsala University he did his doctoral training at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. In 1999 Weigelt joined Pharmacia&Upjohn as a post doctoral fellow, and in the years 2000-2002 he held various Research Scientist positions at Pharmacia and later Biovitrum. In 2002 he was appointed Head of Structural Biochemistry and Biophysics at Biovitrum, with responsibility for protein characterisation, structural biology and biophysical studies of protein-ligand interactions. In December 2004 Weigelt was recruited to Karolinska Institutet to lead the SGC laboratory being set up at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, where he was the Chief Scientist until June 2011. 

Dr. Weigelt holds an Associate Professorship (Docent) at Karolinska Institutet. His interests include structural and chemical biology to support drug discovery and models for public-private collaboration in early stage drug discovery.
