The Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) is a not-for-profit open science partnership that funds pre-competitive research. The aim is to contribute to new hypotheses in understanding and treating human disease, and the subsequent identification of new targets for drug discovery. The SGC supports pioneering research at the University of Oxford (UK), University of Toronto (Canada), State University of Campinas (Brazil), and University of North Carolina (USA). The reagents and knowledge related to proteins that the SGC supports are made openly accessible to researchers around the world to accelerate the discovery of new medicines in order to bring potentially life-saving drugs to market faster and at a lower cost.
SGC-UNICAMP, a part of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) receives funding from public and private sector organisations, including FAPESP, CNPq, Embrapii and the SGC. Research in SGC-UNICAMP is focused on the discovery of selective chemical probes that can modulate protein function, and the development of sets of reagents that enable research on novel targets (target enabling packages). Particular areas of interest are human protein kinases and plant protein kinases involved in desirable traits such as drought-resistance. SGC Campinas shares its research outputs through collaborations with researchers worldwide.
The SGC-UNICAMP lab is two years old and has state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for cell culture, recombinant protein production, protein crystallization, small molecule screening and medicinal chemistry. SGC-UNICAMP has easy access to genomics and proteomics facilities, and access to synchrotron beamlines locally and abroad.
Up to two postdoctoral positions for Cell Biologists are available at the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Campinas, Brazil. We are building a team with a range of skills and are looking for talented scientists who can complement our team.
We are looking for highly motivated scientists with a strong interest in using chemical biology to understand human health. The project develops chemical tools to study the cellular function of proteins and their role in normal and diseased cells.
You will gain in-depth experience on leading projects, in construct design, cell-based assays, and especially in chemical probe development. You will keep records in an electronic laboratory notebook, present your results at scientific conferences, and write and publish scientific papers in high quality, peer-reviewed journals.
There are various projects available, including:
