Group Members
Angela Kwak
MSc student
Angela has an Honours BSc degree from University of Toronto, specializing in Pharmacology and Biomedical Toxicology. She is a MSc student in the thesis-based program provided by the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, and her projects focus on mapping chemical probes on signaling pathways and investigating the ligandability of WDR proteins in silico.
Lihua Liu
Technician
Lihua received her Master's degree in computer science from State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2003. She then worked for SUNY at Stony Brook and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory as application developer. Lihua joined SGC in 2007 as Informatics Programmer.
Evianne Rovers
Graduate Student
Evianne graduated from Amsterdam University College with a B.Sc Liberal Arts and Sciences with Distinction in the tracks Biomedical Sciences and Chemistry in July 2020 and is now an M.Sc student with Direct-entry in the Ph.D. program at the University of Toronto, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. She works on a bioinformatics project called the Ligandable Human Genome, in which potential binding pockets are identified and analyzed across the human genome to develop Proximity Pharmacology compounds. Outside the lab, she enjoys playing for the Varsity Women’s Field Hockey team of UofT and is involved with the student association named PGSA
Lakshi Selvaratnam
M.Sc. student
Lakshi graduated from McMaster University with an Honours BHSc degree in Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization in May 2022. She is now a master’s candidate in the thesis-based program in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Toronto. She currently focuses on the classification and structural chemistry of helicases, a large protein family that is heavily disease-associated but with few known ligands. Outside the lab, she enjoys hiking with her dog and playing beach volleyball.
Conrad Veranso
Post- doctoral Fellow
After a M.Sc at the University of Buea in Cameroon, Conrad graduated with a PhD in pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry from the Institute of Pharmacy at Halle University in Germany, where he worked in the group of Dr. Wolfgang Sippl. He joined the SGC in 2023 where he uses homology modelling, docking, molecular dynamics and binding free energy calculations for chemical probe discovery and applies cheminformatics approaches to grow the Pan-Canadian Chemical Library.
