Research Areas

Masoud and his team characterize proteins produced by the SGC scientists in Toronto and also focus on developing new high throughput biophysical and biochemical characterization techniques. By screening proteins against customized chemical libraries, they identify ligands that promote crystallization and improve crystal quality. They also screen for buffer conditions that reduce protein aggregation and enable them to further concentrate problematic proteins. Creating and comparing chemical profiles for members of each family of protein along with functional studies, they investigate the structure-function relationship and identify unique inhibitors that can discriminate among members of each family of protein. Identifying human SNPs that affect human health by employing high throughput screening techniques is also an ongoing project in his group.
