About SGC Structures

The SGC determines structures from a Target List of proteins from human and human parasites. The Target List comprises ~2,000 proteins nominated by the Funders. Over the next four years, the SGC will determine the structures of 600 different proteins from the Target List. All SGC structures are deposited in the Protein Data Bank.

Our website provides basic background information on each Target and the analysis of its structure. There is also a detailed description of the experimental materials and methods used to generate the structure. Our intention is to provide sufficient information for successful replication of our experiments. Expression clones are also made available. Please contact us for any questions or request for reagents.

In the interest of understanding issues such as enzyme function, selectivity and specificity, the SGC also determines the structures of protein-ligand and protein-protein complexes. These follow-on structures are reviewed by the SGC Scientific Committee on a case-by-case basis and occasionally are permitted to be counted toward the SGC goals. Approval by the Scientific Committee is given only if the structure has significant impact on the understanding of the protein function or mechanism of action/inhibition.
