We are seeking a highly enthusiastic and dedicated Postdoctoral Research Scientist with membrane protein structural biology experience to work with Professor Liz Carpenters group at the SGC. You will be involved in a range of projects involving transporters (ABCs and SLCs) and ion channels that are linked to neuropsychiatric disease, cancer, rare, metabolic and inflammatory diseases. You will be joining a group of experienced membrane protein structural biologists who have solved the structures of twelve proteins involved in human disease. You will be responsible for producing proteins and solving structures by cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography. In addition you will be involved in biophysical and biochemical methods to study function. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills, be involved in academia/Pharma collaborations, publish high quality papers and be involved in cutting edge science focused on curing human disease.
To qualify for this post you would need a PhD (or equivalent) or be close to completing this qualification in a relevant area of protein science. You should have proven experience in: protein expression, purification, crystallisation and/or grid preparation, preferably on membrane proteins. You will also have experience in using biophysical and biochemical methods to study protein function. You will have excellent presentation and written communication skills, and have a proven record in preparation of high quality research publications.
