SGC Oxford - Postdoctoral Scientist in Molecular Cell Biology

Applications are invited for a highly motivated Postdoctoral scientist in Molecular Cell Biology to work within the Structural Genomic Consortium (SGC).

We offer an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow to apply and develop new molecular and cellular tools to meet the diverse challenges of understanding the biology of new targets in Alzheimer’s disease. These include the generation of cell lines with gene knockouts or chromosomal fusion tags using gene editing technology, and the development of optimised expression systems for production of recombinant target proteins. You will express and purify target proteins for functional and structural studies. You will also be responsible for the cell culture infrastructure of the group, including training and supervising cell culture work by other staff, controlling the cell line collections, and monitoring the quality of research.

You will have a PhD (or close to completion) or equivalent combination of training and experience in molecular cell biology. You will have a good publication record, active experience in gene editing as well as curiosity and originality; ability to implement published methods as well as devising new approaches.

You will have demonstrable ability to organise and prioritise work efficiently whilst delivering results to the required standard and to an agreed schedule, with excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively within a group, nationally and internationally with a wide range of people (at a variety of levels of technical knowledge).

The position is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance and is funded by NIH.
