SGC Oxford - Postdoctoral Scientist, Target analysis and project coordinator

Applications are invited for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist and Project Coordinator, to work on Target Analysis within the Structural Genomic Consortium (SGC).

We are looking for an experienced biologist to drive the development of highly annotated target lists in neurodegenerative diseases for SGC Oxford (www.thesgc.org). The effort is coordinated internationally with multiple research groups and is subject to strict timelines. You will implement a scalable workflow to critically assess the available information and identify the key missing reagents and know-how needed to catalyse drug discovery and translation. You will be in charge of coordinating activities within the SGC and with the international collaborators, and will contribute to reporting on our results and achievements in appropriate media.

You will have a PhD (or close to completion) a biological or bioinformatics subject as well as good working knowledge of key biological databases and their purposes. A key skill is to read quickly through unfamiliar literature on a diverse set of potential target proteins and to identify the key tools that are needed to investigate therapeutic hypotheses. You will have experience of writing detailed, accessible, documentation on workflows and processes with an attention to detail to ensure that data and reports are complete and of the highest quality. You will have demonstrable ability to organise and prioritize work efficiently whilst delivering results to the required standard and to an agreed schedule, with excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively within a group, nationally and internationally with a wide range of people (at a variety of levels of technical knowledge).

The position is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance and is funded by NIH.
