Travel by Air

Headington is well placed for airports in London and Birmingham.

London Heathrow
(approx. 40 miles away)
The Airline Oxford-Heathrow bus runs between Heathrow and Oxford and passes through central Headington. It departs from the Central Bus Station and Terminal 5 at Heathrow every 30 minutes and takes about an hour.

London Gatwick
(approx. 60 miles away)
The Airline Oxford-Gatwick runs between Gatwick and Oxford. It departs from Gatwick's North and South bus terminals every hour during the day and every two hours at night, taking just over two hours.

Birmingham Aiport
(approx. 60 miles away)
Travel to Oxford via M42 and M40 or by train directly from the aiport station (Birmingham International). Taxis and hire cars are available at the airport.

Parking

Please advise the SGC in advance if you require a parking space, but note that there are only a very limited number available each day. There is visitor parking at the Churchill Hospital which uses a pay and display system, which is often full. We strongly recommend you use the Park and Ride facility instead.

The Structural Genomics Consortium is situated at the Oxford University Old Road Campus (in Headington, next to the Churchill Hospital), roughly 2 miles east of Oxford city centre.

From M40 (Westbound)

Exit at Junction 8 or Junction 8A. Take the A40 then A420 to central Headington and then follow the signs to the Churchill Hospital.

From M40 (Eastbound)

Exit at Junction 9 – take the A34 then A40 northern ring road to the Marston junction (B4150). Then turn left onto the B4495 towards Headington, follow the signs to the Churchill Hospital.

From the Oxford Ring Road

Leave the A4142 south-eastern ring road and the B4495 junction, then continue along The Slade towards Headington and follow the signs to the Churchill Hospital.

Park and Ride

Alternatively you can use the Thornhill Park and Ride buses (service 600), which leave every 20 minutes and stop at the Churchill Hospital (please visit herefor more information). From there, it is a short walk to the Old Road Campus Research Building. See the local ORCRB map for the pedestrial route (red) from the bus stop.

London Coaches

Frequent 24 hour direct services connect Oxford with London (peak times every 10-15 minutes).

The Oxford Express (X90) – service includes Victoria Coach Station, Grosvenor Gardens , Marble Arch, Baker Street/Gloucester Place and Hillingdon. Tel: 01865 785400

Local buses

There are frequent services to Windmill Road and Old Road from Oxford City Centre. See here for more specific details. Services are provided primarily by two companies: Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach Oxford.

Travel by Train

The SGC is just 2.5 miles from Oxford Station, which is serviced by frequent trains from London (Paddington) and many other parts of the country. Allow 15 minutes by taxi from the station forecourt and 30 minutes by bus. Refer to Oxford City bus information for travel from the train station to the SGC

IMPORTANT: Please note that parking is very difficult. Unless you have arranged a parking space you will need to use the pay and display car park at the Churchill Hospital which is often full. We recommend you use the Park and Ride facility instead.
