Data Manager

We are seeking to appoint a Data Manager to join the Centre for Medicines Discovery to support the ongoing high-throughput serology screening platform at the University of Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team who are providing rapid and cutting-edge COVID-19 tests for hundreds of thousands of patient samples from across the UK over the coming year.

As a Data Manager, you will take the lead in ensuring effective data management practice underpinning COVID-19 testing platforms, including capture, validation and dissemination, often to external organisations including the NHS. Working closely with all members of the team, including the Research Software Engineer, you will ensure that there is an end-to-end tracking of samples and data outputs, being responsible for all aspects of data curation, registration and dissemination. You will also conduct detailed and complex quality analyses of test results.

You will hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant scientific subject or computer science and have a strong track record and extensive experience of data management in a scientific environment. Experience in designing and deploying computing infrastructure which integrates data from heterogeneous database management systems is essential. You will also have practical experience loading and querying data using structured query language (SQL) syntax, with particular experience of MySQL. An ability to be able to communicate clearly with both lab-based and desk-based members of the team at all levels of seniority is essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced project which is playing an important part in providing significant quantities of data to support the ongoing management of the COVID-19 crisis at a national level.
