Postdoctoral Scientist – Small Molecules Modulating Protein Function

We are seeking a highly enthusiastic and dedicated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to work on development of a chemogenomics compound library in Dr. Jon Elkins' group.

You will be involved in a large European Union funded project involving multiple universities as well as pharmaceutical companies. You will be joining a group of experienced biochemists who together aim to create the most comprehensive set of specific inhibitors available, covering one-third of the druggable genome. This inhibitor set will be a valuable resource for the scientific community, enabling new discoveries in biology and medicine. You will be responsible for selecting inhibitors, analysing inhibitor properties such as potency and selectivity and managing collaborations to develop and characterise the inhibitor set. You will help to guide the project and you will have the opportunity to learn new skills, be involved in a large collaboration, publish high quality papers and be involved in cutting edge science focused on curing human disease.

To qualify for this post you would need to hold a PhD in a relevant area of protein science and chemistry, either awarded, submitted for final thesis or close to submission. You should have proven experience in ligand characterisation. The ideal candidate will also have experience in protein production and assay development. You will have excellent presentation and written communication skills, and have a proven record in preparation of high quality research publications. You will be highly self-motivated, well-organised and flexible, with strong planning and problem solving skills, able to work independently and as part of a team, and to collaborate with colleagues and external collaborators.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.
