Postdoctoral Scientist in Structural Biology

Applications are invited for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist in Structural Biology to work with the Centre for Medicines Discovery (CMD).

You will join an international, NIH-funded project (TREAT-AD) in developing a series of new therapeutic hypotheses centered around a prioritised set of novel targets in Alzheimer’s disease. To that end we will develop a suite of target enabling tools including crystal structures, assays and chemical probes, and openly disseminate all data, methods and reagents to any interested academic and/or commercial investigator to accelerate validation of novel drug targets and to seed new drug discovery efforts. You will manage, develop, establish, and pursue appropriate analytical protocols and techniques to support research. In particular, develop methods for expression and purification of the target proteins, structural analysis by crystallography, Cryo-EM and other methods, biochemical activity assays, and identification of ligands by screening and structure-guided approaches.

It is essential that you hold a PhD (or close to completion) in Structural Biology or equivalent experience. You will have proven experience in protein biochemistry and crystallography or EM with an ability to plan and perform experiments independently. You will have demonstrable ability to organise and prioritize work efficiently whilst delivering results to the required standard and to an agreed schedule, with excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively within a group, nationally and internationally with a wide range of people (at a variety of levels of technical knowledge).

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.  Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

This position is offered on a fixed term contract for 24 months and is funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH).

Only applications received before 12 midday on Monday 11 January 2021 will be considered. Please quote 148810 on all correspondence.
