Research Assistant – Chemical Biology (Target Engagement & Screening)

Reporting to the Chemical Probes Group Leader, the main responsibility of this post is to perform and develop cellular assays and model systems to study the function of disease-relevant genes and determine the cellular effects of small molecule probes using a variety of functional assays.

As a Research Assistant you will development of functional cellular assays using luminescence, protein thermal stability and image-based read-outs. Design and perform medium to high throughput compound cellular phenotypic screens. Design and cloning of human gene expression constructs into various expression bacterial and human vectors using various cloning techniques. Handle and maintain mammalian tissue culture cell lines including transfection and transduction of cells with plasmids and retro/-lentivirus. Perform cell viability assays using different readouts (e.g. CellTiter Glo, colony formation assays) in different plate formats.

You will have a degree (MSc or equivalent) in Biology or Biotechnology. Demonstrable experience in cell culture, molecular biology and confocal microscopy. Demonstrable experience in developing and performing protein-protein and protein-ligand interaction assays using e.g. BRET, CETSA, FRAP and enzyme fragment complementation methods to demonstrate chemical probe target engagement. Experience in designing and cloning protein constructs constructs for image-based and luciferase and BRET assays. Basic general lab practice (cell biology, PCR, microscopy, lab instrumentation).
