Research Software Engineer

We are seeking to appoint a Research Software Engineer to join the Centre for Medicines Discovery to support the ongoing high-throughput serology screening platform at the University of Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team who are providing rapid and cutting-edge COVID-19 tests for hundreds of thousands of patient samples from across the UK over the coming year.


As a Research Software Engineer, you will maintain and further develop the underlying laboratory information management system (LIMS) database and web front-end, ensuring that the screening team are able to comply with requirements ensuring efficient end to end tracking of samples and data and their quality control. You will work closely with the all members of the team, including the Data Manager, to provide rapid solutions to unexpected software engineering problems and end-user requirements.


You will hold a graduate degree in bioinformatics, computer science or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Have a strong track record and extensive experience of building and maintaining bespoke full-stack data management solutions. You will be able to demonstrate extensive experience of working with heterogeneous database and query management systems with particular expertise with MySQL, python, R, PHP and HTML/CSS/JS.
