SGC Oxford - Research Assistant - Cloning and Protein Production

We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant primarily to provide molecular biology and protein production support for SGC projects for screening of compound libraries, crystallisation trials and functional assays. The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge and experience in cloning and expressing proteins in bacterial and/or baculoviral or mammalian systems, and of protein purification from large-scale cultures. The candidate will work as part of a team with multiple milestones; therefore, they must have the confidence and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.

You will be joining a team of 12 highly motivated and enthusiastic scientists, who work closely together to achieve the objectives of the group. The group collaborates and interacts very closely with the other SGC teams, to provide constructs, proteins and develop methods for increasing protein expression, parallel processing and driving throughput.

You will have a BSc degree or equivalent experience in molecular biology, biochemistry or chemistry. Experience in PCR, cloning and mutagenesis and previous experience in protein expression in bacterial and baculoviral or mammalian systems. You will also have previous experience in large-scale protein purification and troubleshooting. A flexible attitude, with the ability to work with little supervision managing multiple tasks in a milestone-oriented project. Familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and DNA analysis software, and able to learn other software packages.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.
