Translational Patient-Derived Cell Assays
The SGC has together with our partners since 2015 added a new component to our target discovery partnership, the SGC Tissue Platforms.
In collaboration with leading hospitals, universities and other collaborating organizations, we have set-out to fund and establish translational medical research units in the CNS, inflammation and oncology disease areas. The first of these clinical research units were established at Karolinska in Stockholm (systemic auto-immune diseases), Oxford (inflammation and fibrosis) and in Toronto (oncology). More recently, two new platforms were added this year, focused on studies in neurodegenerative diseases (at Montreal Neurological Insitute) and inflammatory bowel diseases (at Karolinska).
Our broader aim is to generate assays of the highest quality, relevance and reproducibility through which we will profile the SGC chemical and biological probes (and other compounds); linking novel targets to important new indications, based on data derived from human disease samples.
The basis of these partnerships and collaborations is built on the SGC open source policy, in which we share results with the wider community following internal quality control, most often pre-publication. We have now completed some of the initial assay formats and testing of chemical probes (high quality and well profiled chemical compounds suitable for interrogating biological and disease processes), and are making the data publicly available.

The Meeting
At this meeting on the 7th of December, we’ll get scientific updates on our progress from key clinical researchers covering our disease areas, which also are integral partners in the SGC Tissue Platforms.
