Research Technician

Position Summary:

The Research Technician provides support for ongoing research projects by assisting with recombinant protein production, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to laboratory organization and quality control. The role ensures smooth day-to-day operations in the laboratory by preparing materials, documenting and tracking production runs, supporting quality control activities, and providing general technical assistance.

Duties:

  • Assist with routine preparation and execution of protein production experiments following established protocols.
  • Collect and record experimental data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform quality control (QC) checks on protein production batches.
  • Maintain detailed logs and tracking systems for production runs.
  • Prepare, assemble, and set up equipment, reagents, and supplies for protein production workflows.
  • Restock consumables, glassware, and reagents as needed.
  • Assist with general lab organization and maintenance, including cleaning and sterilizing glassware and maintaining shared workstations.
  • Support routine equipment checks and notify the lab manager of any issues.
  • Enter and maintain accurate data in laboratory databases and shared records.
  • Assist in preparing summaries of production runs and QC results.
  • Ensure proper labelling and storage of samples and records for traceability.
  • Assist with sharing biological materials with collaborators.
  • Follow established laboratory safety guidelines at all times.
  • Handle biological materials, chemicals, and equipment in compliance with safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • At least one year of laboratory experience (protein production experience preferred but not required).
  • Ability to follow established protocols with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong record-keeping and data entry skills.
  • Familiarity with cell culture, protein expression and purification, or related laboratory techniques.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
