Position Summary:
The Bioinformatics/Data Science Analyst will play a critical role in supporting a data-driven drug discovery program by managing compound libraries, chemical data, and experimental metadata. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Analyst will ensure accurate organization, tracking, and handling of both bespoke and commercially available compounds while collaborating closely with data scientists to support high-quality data generation. This position requires a balance of independence and teamwork, combining hands-on laboratory work with data management and analysis to advance the research program. We work closely with academic institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and technology leaders to develop innovative tools and platforms that make biomedical research faster, more collaborative, and more impactful. This open science, milestone-driven program seeks to revolutionize and democratize drug discovery to advance human health.
Duties:
- Receive, process, and catalogue all compound samples from internal and external sources into the compound inventory.
- Implement labeling, tracking, and segregation strategies to prevent cross-contamination and minimize freeze-thaw cycles, ensuring sample integrity.
- Prepare compound information in database-ready formats and upload to internal data management systems.
- Organize and optimize storage facilities for efficient space utilization and compound retrieval.
- Dispense compounds to support data generation research programs, including weighing solid samples, preparing stock solutions and aliquots, and plating liquid samples using manual and automated systems.
- Collaborate with data scientists to provide chemical information and availability for experimental planning.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date records of compound data, including batch information, chemical structures, QC results, and usage history, ensuring database integrity and reproducibility.
- Support the upload and integration of chemistry-related datasets generated by team members into internal databases.
- Train laboratory members and trainees on proper data uploading, database maintenance, and compound record-keeping practices to ensure consistent and accurate information management.
- Capture, organize, and analyze experimental results and associated metadata in collaboration with data scientists and trainees; assist in generating reports.
- Contribute to training team members on compound management and related laboratory procedures.
- Coordinate shipping and tracking of compounds and materials to collaborators as directed by the Principal Investigator and/or their designate.
- Support laboratory safety, proper disposal of solutions and consumables, and general laboratory cleanliness.
- Clean laboratory equipment and maintain an organized work environment.
Qualifications
- B.Sc. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience with data management platforms and robotic liquid handling systems.
- Experience handling chemical libraries and managing large compound collections.
- Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to team-based projects.
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and proper chemical handling procedures.
